August started a week back and my blog just went silent. Must confess it was a very hectic week at my end. The 1st and 2nd were spent at Aloft Cessna Business Park, Bangalore where the first ever all India food bloggers meet was organised (#IFBM2014). It was one learning experience to be amidst so many talented bloggers of the country. During the two days long sessions we were exposed to various aspects of blogging and how we could improve on them a few were photography, food styling, food writing and SEO.

Hi All! Wishing all Mom's a very happy Mother's Day.

My friends who keep reading my posts and pictures believe that I keep cooking gourmet food every day and I find it very difficult to tell them it’s simple food that’s presented stylishly for my blog. I do not use any gourmet products in most of my cooking but with the ingredients available easily at home, I try to cook decent food. For me that’s the real challenge, with most basic ingredients how to cook different food. I must admit that a home-maker’s job is ever challenging but these daily challenges make me feel motivated and keep me going and of course when readers send me mails praising my food, it’s a bonus. I look forward to your reactions, criticism and praise, so do keep them coming.

Hello!!

Last few days went like a gush of wind. With guests around and children having vacation, I never got any ‘Me’ time plus the days passed away cooking, cleaning, talking and site seeing. We also went to the beach and played in the sand, the kid who never wanted to come to the beach wasn’t ready to come back home. Playing with mother nature is always a heartening experience.

At the beach we tried a few street foods or rather beach food, first we had the white peas sundal, then we all tasted a mix platter of fritters, later we had freshly fire roasted spiced sweet corn which was the star preparation for that day. And yes, on our way back we stopped at our favourite chaat corner and had ‘paani poori’ and ‘Aloo chaat’ too. Wish we could have more of such days in our life, it refreshed me internally.

Phew!!! 

Finally the kid’s exams are over and I can breathe with a sense of relief! As long as the kid was writing his papers, I felt that I was the one who had exams. Immediately after exams I and the kid have taken a short break and currently I’m relaxing at my Mum’s place.

We travelled right on the Holi day,  as the city that  I live in currently, there’s no holiday for Holi and in my apartment complex they do not allow to play Holi, about  which obviously the kid isn’t very happy! But personally I’ve no qualms about it, as I’m allergic to the colours.

Focaccia Caprese | We Knead To Bake | Baking Bread| Vegan | Winner Of December’s ONLY Event

Hello All!

Here comes the first post of 2014 and I’m amused at myself that I’m starting off with a bread. I have posted an Onion-Rosemary Focaccia earlier and is one of my favourite posts from my blog. I have recently joined a group called ‘We Knead To Bake’, created by Aparna of My Diverse Kitchen.  When I was thrown to this first challenge of baking Caprese Focaccia by her, I was overwhelmed. My only worry was how to avoid the APF since I’ve been trying to cut down on the it’s use. I initially thought that I would make a whole wheat Focaccia but then I knew it won’t be as soft and spongy so I kept postponing it. The pictures of the bakes posted by others in the group were too tempting and they lured me to finally  bend my rule and I decided to bake this bread only to land up watching smiling faces of the family.

I’ve provided step wise instructions on making this bread here and hence I’m only repeating the important steps in this post but I do want to discuss more about this rustic Italian bread  the name of which has been derived from ‘Panis Focacius’ which means a flat bread baked on the hearth.
